These photos are from the first shoot with my Canon G9, a feature packed compact 12Mp camera with a flexible and accurate focusing system. (35-210mm zoom - 3" LCD monitor) All photos were shot at Glenwood Park in Portland Oregon on July 4th & 5th 2008. On this festive evening neighbors bring out their fireworks and light up the sky. The camera was supported by a Manfrotto 695 Carbon Fiber monopod (even at full telephoto) and a Giottos MH-1001 ballhead. Most shots where done by bracing myself (and the monopod) against a tree or light pole, but in other places I had to Stand with my feet apart and lean towards the monopod to steady the camera for exposures that ranged from 1/30 to 2 seconds. Adobe Lightroom was used for primary image processing of the Canon RAW images. Photoshop Layer Masks were used to add fireworks to a few shots and the Noiseware Pro v4 plug-in was used to reduce noise in the night shots which were shot at ISO 400 and 800.
